It is not unreasonable that Himachal Pradesh is called “Dev Bhoomi” or “Land of the Gods”. Himachal Pradesh is full of legends and myths about gods and goddesses. Every region and every city has its own temple, with a rich and colorful history and stories behind it. Himachal Pradesh is located on a high mountain. With its original beauty, it is no wonder that it has become a favorite place for the gods. The following is a list of some of the most famous temples in Himachal Pradesh.

That is why it is known as Devbhoomi. One part of this Devbhoomi lies in the beautiful valley of Kangra, where the concentration of these revered temples are much more.   • BAJRESHWARI TEMPLe

    The temple of Brijeshwari is considered by the Hindus to be a Gupt Dham - a sacred place of pilgrimage - one's pilgrimage is not over until one visits Brijeshwari Temple. The date of its foundation is not clear but it is definitely about 1500 years old.   • CHAMUNDA DEVI TEMPLE

    The original Chamunda temple is situated at a height of 9000 feet in the fort of Chandra Bhan ka kila - but the temple which has gained fame is the relatively new (500 years old) and built in a straight line from the original, lower down in the valley. This site is believed to be the site where the demons Chand and Mund were killed by the goddess.

  • JWALAMUKHI TEMPLE

    Not too far from Kangra is this popular place of pilgrimage. An eternally burning flame that issues from a hollow rock in the sanctum, is considered the manifestation of the goddess Devi. During March-April and September-October every year, colorful fairs are held during the Navratra celebration. Jwalamukhi temple is 30 km. from Kangra. The best known Jwala Ji shrine is located in the lower Himalayas in Jawalamukhi town of the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh state of India, about 55 kilometers from the larger town of Dharamsala.Jwala Ji is a Hindu Goddess. Alternative spelling and names for Jawala Ji include Jwala Devi and Jwalamukhi Ji.

  • CHINTPURNI

    Chintpurni is a major idolized shrine of the Hindus, which is located in the Una district of Himachal Pradesh. It is placed on one of the highest peaks of the Sola Singhi Range. Chintpurni Devi is the goddess here who takes away all the worries and stress of devotees. In this temple, the Goddess is showed without her head in a pindi form (round stone). Many Devotees have been flocking Shaktipeeth for centuries to worship at the lotus feet of Mata Shri Chhinnamastika Devi.
